Description:
Hugh A. Ulrich, an Assemblies of God pastor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, began publication of Wort und Zeugnis (Word and Witness) in 1915. At the time it was reportedly the only German Pentecostal publication in America. Wort und Zeugnis discontinued publication during World War I. It resumed publication in 1923 and became the official organ of German Branch of the Assemblies of God. The German Branch (organized in 1922 and renamed German District in 1973) consisted of German-speaking congregations and ministers in the United States. Wort und Zeugnis was also associated with the Russian and Eastern European Mission (REEM), a Chicago-based missions organization that worked closely with the Assemblies of God. REEM and the Assemblies of God parted ways in 1940. Wort und Zeugnis networked German-speaking Pentecostals across the United States, Europe, and the German diaspora. It is unknown when Wort und Zeugnis ceased publication; the last known issue is from December 1939.
